Principal’s December Message

IMPORTANT INFORMATION . . .

The students have been working hard preparing for our Christmas Program to be held next Tuesday, December 16th at 6:30.  It will be held at the church building in Springdale.  Students should arrive at 6:15 wearing their best dress clothes.  Please wear shirts that have a plain front; no prints.

It is required for Title 1 schools to share a summary of our Schoolwide Title 1 Plan.  It is as follows:

Springdale Elementary, in conjunction with the PTO and Community Council have reviewed the 2013-2014 student achievement data.  It has been determined to focus on better preparing students for the new SAGE testing.  The Schoolwide Title 1 plan will also continue to focus on Reading, Math and Science.  This plan focuses on individual interventions to targeted students in order to ensure high levels of learning for ALL students, professional development for teachers, and parental involvement activities.  In order to increase student achievement in these areas, all parents, community members, district personnel, school faculty and staff will work together to help all students succeed.  It was also determined by our Community Council and PTO to designate School Land Trust funding & Title 1 funds to support the implementation of The Leader in Me program in order to better meet the needs of the WHOLE student and in helping each child find their potential.

On Jan 12th we are holding training for Pre-School and K parents.  A district specialist will be here to share her expertise and to provide resources and ideas for parents to support their students at home.  They will also receive information about UPSTART, a free, home-based, state funded, Kindergarten preparedness program.  UPSTART provides pre-school-age children with an individualized reading, math and science software curriculum for both English and Bilingual students.  Free computers and Internet access for qualifying homes is also available.  Currently they are recruiting for Kindergarten students who will be entering K in the Fall of 2016.  We will supervise your children (of all ages) in order for you to attend this important class.

Our next Open Arms Alliance will be held Monday, Feb. 2nd at 6:00.  From the survey that you participated last month, it is clear that a lot of you would like some iPad instruction.  Please email me back if you are interest in a Beginning iPad class or a more advanced class.  The Open Arms Alliance is to provide a service to the entire community. Please pass the word to friends, family, and local business owners to attend this unifying activity.

Remember . . . . PLC Collaboration Days are short days when students are dismissed at 1:15.  They allow teachers to work on school goals and professional development.  All days are posted on the school calendar.  We will hold our next Community Council Meeting on Feb 2nd at 4:00.  All parents are welcome to attend.  Minutes from all meetings are posted on our school calendar. Please continue to encourage your child(ren) to read each night and mark the appropriate form in order to earn nickels for Peruvian students.
