Dear Students and Parents,

SEPs are going to be held September 1st and 2nd.  This is a wonderful opportunity to sit down with your child and set goals for the school year.  Please make arrangements with your child's classroom teacher if you are not able to make the appointment that has been made. 

Our faculty as been busy during the month of August.  We have been trained on how to implement the new district CORE Reading Program called Treasures.  It contains many of the comprehensive literacy components that we have been trained in over the last few years.  Treasures places a strong focus on comprehension, writing and reading fluency.  In addition there is a Home Family Connection available online for parents and students to use at home.  All materials are available in both English and Spanish.  User names and passwords will be given out at SEPs this week. 

I can not stress enough how important it is for your child to be at school every day.  Most of the instruction done during the day cannot be made up.  Of course if your child is sick, please keep them home.  Another flu season will be upon us soon.  Please take every precaution necessary to keep your child healthy.

We have an opportunity to provide breakfast for our students.  Those students that have been approved for free or reduced lunch would also qualify for a simple breakfast.   There is even talk of sending home lunch with some of our Kindergarten students.  If there s enough interest in either of these opportunities, please let us know.

One of our school goals this year is to improve communication with you by informing you of events well in advance.  We are depending on our new school website at spring.washk12.org, to provide important information.  Have patience with this site.  It is still a work in progress.  Email and text messages will also be used this year.  See the rest of our school goals that will be posted online soon.
