Nickels For Knowledge
Written by Ben F. and Jessika K.
At Springdale Elementary we believe that reading is a very important skill. Reading helps learn about the world around us. Books can let you experience more worlds that are too far away or too expensive to get to. Reading lets you practice concentration because when you read you only focus on that one book. Finally, reading about other people can help you shape your own life.
The project Nickels For Knowledge was created by the students of Springdale Elementary because we all have decided that every nickel, even a penny counts to help the children of Peru have access to books. Students have been working hard at homework and earn a nickel for each completed assignment. We have the permission to either keep or donate to our project, and lately our students have gathered quite a bit of money.
Our efforts are significant, but with your help, we could do even more. Not only are we reading and donating, but we plan to create a song, produce a CD and donate the proceeds. You can support our cause by donating, purchasing our CD or encouraging our students to read at home. Together we can change the world we live in.
Each year the State of Utah sends out School Report for every school. It is called UCAS (Utah Comprehensive Accountability System). This report summarizes each school’s performance for the school year. The UCAS report card takes into consideration Student Growth and Student Proficency.
